Windham resident Linda Riquier joins organization to lead effort

Linda Riquier of Windham, CTOLD SAYBROOK, Conn. – Linda Riquier of Windham, Connecticut, has joined the Southeastern Connecticut Chapter of SCORE (SECT) as a volunteer, leading the chapter’s community outreach efforts in Windham County.

SCORE is a nonprofit organization and a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration that offers free, confidential advice and educational resources to small-business owners.

At present, Southeastern Connecticut SCORE serves small businesses in New London and Middlesex Counties. Riquier will now focus on Windham County, which encompasses such communities as Willimantic, Windham, Brooklyn, and Killingly north to Putnam, Woodstock, and Thompson.

"It's wonderful that SCORE is expanding into Windham County,” said Betti Kuszaj, Executive Director of the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce. “Having one-on-one SCORE services available locally will be of great benefit to our entrepreneurs and small businesses, and Linda has the experience and first-hand knowledge of our business community to help ensure the successful launch of this expansion.”

“We are fortunate to have Linda Riquier leading SCORE’s work in Windham County,” said Frank LaMonaca, SECT Chapter Chair, “Linda is a local resident who has done business in the area for many years and is in tune with the needs of the small business community.”

Riquier has decades of experience counseling entrepreneurs and small-business owners through her position as a Business Services Representative and her own professional services firm. Funded by the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) in partnership with Quinebaug Valley Community College and the Northeastern CT Chamber of Commerce, Riquier served in her role as a business services representative at the American Job Center in Willimantic from 2009 until her retirement in December 2021.She assisted hundreds of employers in the 41-town EWIB region with their hiring and training needs.

From 1989 – 2012, Riquier owned and operated L&R Marketing, LLC, a full-service marketing consultancy with a small-business clientele. Riquier says this combined experience has given her a comprehensive overview of the employment situation, as well as a grounding in the issues and challenges faced by small businesses in this region.

“This area is often referred to as ‘The Quiet Corner,’” Riquier says. “Based on my thirty-plus years providing hiring and marketing counsel and other services to local small businesses, I can assure you that, from an entrepreneurial standpoint, it is anything but quiet. There are hundreds of retail stores, personal and professional services firms, and family-owned businesses that are potential clients for SCORE’s one-on-one mentoring and our seminars and webinars.” (https://sect.score.org/content/take-workshop-141)
